About Young Opera Venture

Young Opera Venture is a new, not-for-profit opera company, registered charity number 1151551, based in Leeds, set up to take first-rate performances to venues which have little access to opera, and to give young singers their first professional opportunities. Young Opera Venture Ltd is a company limited by guarantee No 7966711.

Our People

Our Artistic Director is Jane Anthony and our Music Director is John Longstaff.

Young Opera Venture is delighted to announce that it has been successful in its application to Arts Council England for funding for its new production of Mozart’s great opera The Magic Flute.

Having already secured generous funding from The International Opera Awards Foundation and The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust we are delighted that we will be able to realise this project and continue to give young singers early career experience and to take great opera to local theatres in the North of England.

Auditions being held February-March 2014

Young Opera Venture’s new production of The Magic Flute will rehearse in Leeds from 18 August 2014 (music rehearsals in June), open on Saturday 13 September 2014 in Barnsley Civic, and tour to at least eight venues in the North of England during September and October with a possibility of further performances in November.

Auditions will be held during February/March 2014 in Leeds. Singers who are recently qualified from post-graduate opera study at national conservatoires or with equivalent skills and experience are invited to send CV, photo and covering letter to jane@yov.org.uk

Accessible, Local, Exceptional. Young Opera Venture is a charity which works to:
  • take excellent opera to smaller venues with little provision at present
  • build new audiences for opera
  • give young professional singers and musicians early career opportunities
